METRIC BORE PRODUCTS
"Metric Bore" is the most commonly used piping system for larger diameter stainless steel process pipework (from 15mm to 800mm Bore in the main).
Unlike the more traditional heavy walled carbon steel pipes, which were based on oil and gas requirments with a corrosion allowance on the wall thickness, "Metric Bore" has thinner wall thicknesses to match the actual pressure requirments of the piping system and as a result is a much more competitively priced stainless steel option.
"Metric Bore" is also based on the constant bore size of the products so that the most important aspect of the pipeline i.e. the inside bore is consistant and true.
150mm Bore will, regardless of any slight variations in the wall thickness of the various fittings and pipe to maintain pressure requirments, have a bore / I.D. of 150mm throughout the pipe spool.
| i.e. | 153mm OD x1.5mm wall tube | = 150mm bore |
| 154mm OD x 2mm wall bends | = 150mm bore | |
| 156mm OD x 3mm collars | = 150mm bore |
The lighter wall thickness of "Metric Bore" also reduces significantly the cost involved in the pipe spool manafacturing, handling and installation and is commonly used as a replacment for carbon steel coated pipelines. It also offers further life cycle cost savings as it requires no further maintenance in surface protection measures.
There are two standard grades of stainless steel available. Grade 304L and 316L. Grade 304L is the basic standard grade and Grade 316L for more corrosive applications.
